After the first visible photoluminescence (PL) from porous silicon (pSi), continuous efforts are made to fabricate Si-based compound nanomaterials embedded in matrices such as oxide, nitride, and carbide improve optical performance industrial acceptability. These nanomaterials’ functional desired properties (nanoparticles quantum dots matrices) can vary significantly when technologically relevant matrices. However, exploring exact emission mechanisms is one of remaining challenges past few decades. To cover this gap, review discusses morphological optoelectronic their correlation with confinement effect different surface states find precise mechanisms. One biggest using biological sector development sensitive materials low/acceptable toxicity for identifying target analytes either inside/outside platforms.
